One of the first things you'll need to do once you get your new IDX Broker account is add your Google Map Key. Each account requires a unique Google Maps API Key to power the Google map features available on your Map Search and Search Results pages. The Google map key is stored in IDX Broker under My Preferences -> Global Preferences -> Map Options. The map key is tied your Google Account.

How to Add or Update Your Google Maps API Key

Before you add your own Google Map Key to your IDX Broker account, you will see and error on your maps that reads "This web site needs a different Google Maps API key...".

First, you will need a Google Account. If you do not already have a Google Account, you can create one here for free. Use your Google Account to login to Google API's Console. This is where you will generate your map key. When you first login, you will see a box in the middle of the screen asking you to create a new project. Click on the blue Create Project... button.

Then, click on Services in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.

Here you will see a list of Google services with buttons which will allow you to turn those services on or off. Click the toggle for Google Maps API v2 to On. Once, you click this button, you will be brought to a page where you will need to agree to Google's Terms & Conditions for their Google Maps API.

Then, click on API Access in the menu on the left hand side of the screen.

Here, you should see a box labeled Simple API Access that contains your Google API Key. Highlight this key and copy it. This is the key that you will need to enter into your IDX Broker control panel.

Now, login to IDX Broker and go to My Preferences -> Global Preferences -> Map Options.  Paste your Google API key into the  text field provided next to the Google Maps Key preference and save your changes.

View your IDX pages to see your maps displaying correctly.

If you have updated your map key, and your maps are still not displaying. Please go through the process above again, and double check the following:

  • In Google Console, be sure you have the Google Maps API v2 service switched to On.
  • When pasting in the map key into IDX Broker, please be sure not to accidentally omit any characters in your map key, or paste it any extra spaces.
