| Custom and Saved Links | |||||||||
Custom Links are links to pre-defined results pages. These allow you to send users directly to a list of properties, rather than having them fill out a search form. For example, you may wish to create custom links for several subdivisions and place them on your home page, allowing users to go straight to a list of properties in that subdivision. There are two methods for creating custom links. The most straightforward method is to begin at one of the search pages provided with your IDX account. You can find the links to these search pages under Account Management -> Page Links. Once on a search page, enter your search criteria and click Search. You can save the URL from the address bar of the results page and use that as your custom link. The second method for creating custom links will give you a few additional features, including the ability to name and save the link and give it a custom subheader. To use this method, go to Customize --> Custom Links in your control panel. 1. Click the link for the type of search criteria you want to use.2. Enter your criteria and click Generate Link. 3. Under the Step 2 heading, enter a name for the new link and click Save. This name will appear at the end of the URL in place of the search criteria you would see on a typical results page. You can find detailed, step-by-step instructions on how to create Custom Links here. Additional Options for Saved Links To further customize any custom link you have saved, go to Customize --> Saved Links in your IDX control panel. Click the name of the link you want to work with. Some of the available options here are: The Link Name allows you to change the saved name, and therefore the customized URL, of the link.![]() Add a Special Link Subheader. Just like the Sub Headers in the customize menu, anything you enter here will appear just above the rest of the IDX content on the page. However, here you can add a different subheader for every results page you save, rather than using the same subheader for each. Use the Subheader Position option to choose if your new subheader will replace any already existing results page subheader, or display above or below it. Otherwise, the title will pull from the <title> tags of the Global HTML Wrapper or the results page Page Wrapper. ![]() Use the Special Link Title and Custom Link Page Details to determine how your saved link will appear on your Custom Link Showcase. The Custom Link Showcase is simply an IDX page which displays a list of all the custom links you’ve created, and can be used on your website like a directory or partial sitemap. You can determine what the linked text will say (Link Title) and if a description of the link will appear on your showcase. ![]() The Link Details section will display both the custom and standard versions of your custom link URL as well as the search criteria used. Clicking the Edit Link by Hand link below the display of the standard URL allows you to make changes to the search criteria used for your link by manually editing the search variables in the URL. Some advanced developers use this feature to make use of link formulas or undocumented features that aren't available on standard search forms. ![]() Use the Meta Tags Description and Meta Tags Keywords fields to enter in custom meta tags for each saved link. Add descriptions and keywords that are relevant to the search results produced by your custom search criteria. These special meta tags for saved links allow you to provide unique meta content to each set of custom search results to both your site visitors and search engines. ![]() After updating any of the settings for a saved link, click
the Save Changes button. |
