This month's newsletter includes training on how to embed a YouTube video into a sub header on your IDX search or results pages. We'll also show you how to display a Walk Score map on the property details page for every listing. Lastly, we'll go over how you can add open houses and virtual tours to your Featured Listings.
Are you using the IDX Broker WordPress plugin? Did you know that we recently updated the plugin? If you use the plugin, you may upgrade directly via WordPress. Or, you can go to the plugin page and download the files directly. If you haven't reviewed the latest plugin version, we encourage you to do that here. We also welcome suggestions for the next version of our plugin. Simply reply to this email with your request.
Best regards,

Add a YouTube Video to a Sub Header
IDX Broker's Sub Headers are a quick and easy way to add extra, unique content to any of your IDX pages. Because sub headers accept text or HTML content, you can embed different types of media and content that are shareable throughout the web, like YouTube videos. Videos can be a great way to add a promo video for your business to your search pages, or videos about communities to your custom links.
First, find a video on the YouTube site that you would like to add to one of your IDX pages. Underneath the video, you should see a Share button. Clicking this button will display options for sharing the video on other web pages. Click the Embed button to display the code you will need to copy and paste into your sub header to display the video. Copy this code.
Login to IDX Broker and locate the sub header for the page where you would like your video to display. Sub headers for your standard IDX page links are found under Customize -> Sub Headers. Sub Headers for custom links are located under Customize -> Saved Links. Click on a saved link and paste your code into the Special Link Subheader area.
View your IDX page to see your embedded YouTube video in action! Below is an example of a video added to a saved link displaying properties in Sunriver, Oregon. You can view this page here.
Display a Walk Score Map with Each Listing
Walk Score is a popular mapping tool used to show amenities like restaurants, stores, grocery stores, parks, and more around a given location. With IDX Broker's Walk Score map for your property detail pages, you can give your site visitors a glimpse of the types of businesses and conveniences within walking distance from the listing they are viewing. You can turn on Walk Score maps on your property details pages by going to My Preferences -> Global Preferences -> Detail Page Options. Here, there is a preference called Details Page Map that allows you to choose which type of map you would like to display. Choose Walk Score from these options and enter in a height and width for the map.
View any of your IDX property details pages to see your new Walk Score maps!
IDX Broker uses the Free version of Walk Score's API, which does support advertisements, so you may see some ads included on your Walk Score maps. If you do not want to see ads displayed in your Walk Score maps, you have the option of upgrading to Walk Score's Premium Service, which will remove the ads from your maps. For more instructions on upgrading and obtaining a Walk Score Publisher Key to use with your IDX Broker account, please see this article in our Knowledge Base.
Add Open Houses & Virtual Tours to Featured Listings
You can easily add open house and virtual tour information to your Featured Listings directly through IDX Broker. This can come in handy if your MLS does not include open houses or virtual tours in their IDX data. All of your featured listings are located in IDX Broker under Listings -> Active. To add virtual tours and open houses to your listings, use the VT and OH icons to the left of each listing.
A pop-up box will appear where you can enter in information about your open house or virtual tour. For open houses, you will need to enter in the dates and time for the open house and set Open House Enabled? to Yes.
In the pop-up box for virtual tours, you will need to enter in your virtual tour URL, the text that you would like the link to display, the dimensions for the window that the virtual tour will display on your site and set Virtual Tour Enabled? to Yes. You must have a pre-existing URL for a virtual tour.
You can see your open houses and virtual tours in action by viewing any of your featured listings on your IDX pages. Links to your open house and virtual tours will display on the search results and property details pages for listings that have them.
